Toshu's Kanji House 8th

Thank you for your waiting.
Today’s guest is 楽“Fun” who wanted to appear on his own. 👏

Hello! Nice to meet you!!
I am 楽“Fun”(^^♪

This is such a showy appearance ♪ (* ^ _ ^ *)
It's really fun.

°˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°
Enjoying everything is my motto!

That’s great(^^♪
Please introduce yourself!

I , 楽 “Fun” was born as Oracle Bone Script.
I was born in the Chinese Yin Era, so I turned 3,300 years old. ✨
3,300 years in a flash!! It has been fun and fun (^ ^ ♪

If it's fun, time passes quickly.
By the way, when I first saw a new born 楽“Fun”{Oracle Bone Script}, I thought you were Barutan-Seijin^_^;
I think it has a silhouette like this...

That's an Ultraman’s villain, isn't it?
That's funny(^ ^)
I was once called a crayfish, but Barutan-Seijin...

You certainly look like a crayfish...

By the way, why were you born like this?

Here's a quiz. What does this figure look like?

a crayfish?

???
Okay, let me show you my shape in Bronze Script evolved a little!!

金文(Bronze Script)

Oh, this one looks more like Barutan-Seijin.

WHAT!? REALLY?

Yes. Seriously. lol

I'm shocked.

I'm sorry for the jokes!
Can you give me any tips?

Well, I’m related to 音楽"music".

Maybe is it any 楽器"musical instruments"?

Bingo!!
It shows the shape of a hand bell with a handle.
The part that Toshu-san thought it looked like Barutan-Seijin’s face in Bronze Script represents a bell.
And the parts of hands are thread decorations. ✌
In fact, there were threads(糸) on both sides of the old character form of Kaisho “樂”!!
The new character form “楽” has the number of strokes omitted and the thread has been removed ^ _ ^;
I’m sad … (tears)
In shrines and other places, the old character form “樂” is sometimes written, so it might be fun to look for it.

The old character form(六朝楷書:Rikucho-Kaisho)

That’s interesting!!

Toshu-san, have you ever seen miko(shrine meidens) performing a dance at 御神楽(mikagura=sacred music and dancing performed at shrines) at the shrine?

Yes, I have!!

Do you remember what miko had in their hands?

If I remember correctly, they seemed to have osakaki(species of evergreen sacred to Shinto, Cleyera japonica)

How about something to make sounds?

Oh, some miko had bells.

They danced playing the bell which made beautiful sounds like Shan✨Shan✨
This is the bell. Actually, I bought it when I visited to pray at Ise Shrine before.

↑ This bell is a modern one, but it's called 神楽鈴(kagura-suzu) and this bell will be the original form of 楽"Fun".
Look at my shapes in Shoten and Reisho scripts which look like the current characters.

小篆(Shoten)

隷書(Reisho)

Cool.
You don’t look like a crayfish and Barutan-Seijin anymore(^_-)-☆

Kagura-suzu is an instrument used by ancient people to entertain God.

That's why the word "fun" was created to express the feeling because it represents the act of entertaining God!

Exactly! !
And 楽“Gaku” when it means 音楽“music(ongaku)”. For example, 楽器"musical instruments(gakki)", 楽曲"musical compositions(gakkyoku)", 舞楽"dance(bugaku)", 楽譜"musical scores(gakufu)", etc.
楽“Raku” when it means "enjoy". For example, 行楽"excursion(kouraku)", 娯楽"entertainment(goraku)", 楽勝"easy victory(rakusho) "...

It is easy to memorize♡

Yes, it is!!

It was really nice to have you here today.
It was a lot of fun. I learned a lot.
Thank you!

I’m very glad to hear that.
Peep♪ Peep♪ Peep♪ Peep♪ Peep♪
Oh, there's not much time left to stay on the ground.
I have to go now. SHWATCH!!

EH? Ultraman? lol
How did you like his performance, everyone?
He was a fun Kanji, wasn’t he?

The next guest of "Toshu’s Kanji House" is who was introduced by 従"Obey" last time!!
Please look forward to it!!
